Somatic Therapies
from the Heart Service Offerings
Somatic Therapy Overview
Somatic therapy integrates
the emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of our being.
Sadly, as our lifestyles
have become more complicated, isolated and stressful, many of us
have unconsciously separated our minds from our bodies, often becoming
submerged in spinning vortexes of negative thought loops. Losing
compassion for ourselves, we become human doings instead of human
beings. Somatic therapy is predicated on rediscovering that place
of deep listening within the body, where one's core essence lies.
It is about reclaiming
the temple of the body and the spaciousness of the mind. It is my
deep belief that in order to live an authentic life, one can and
must heal this mind/body split, thus reclaiming our birthright,
which is to live fully, mindfully, and with great exuberance.
What follows is a brief
description of services which reflect this approach.
Chakra Therapy
The word chakra is Sanskrit
for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers
in the body. Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia
branching forth from the spinal column, glands and organ systems.
The chakras correlate
to levels of consciousness, archetypal elements, and developmental
stages of life. When there has been a major life event, i.e. a health
issue, traumatic life experience or spiritual crisis, there will
be a resulting impact on the corresponding chakras. Traumatic experiences
are stored within the tissues and muscles of the body, becoming
chronic holding patterns, or body armor, that keep us from feeling
energetic, healthy, and at peace. There is a resultant mind/body
split.
Through a series of sessions,
the client learns how to listen and interpret the language of the
chakras through focus and attention to the body/mind interface.
As this dialogue between mind and body unfolds, a profound healing
occurs. Many clients report feeling more solid, grounded and fully
present. They experience dramatic shifts in perspective, which moves
them in new and exciting directions in their lives. This reintegration
of body mind results in greater health, wholeness and authenticity.
Energy Balancing
The human system is both
physical and energetic. Energy Medicine is the practice of medicine
using the flow of energy as a medium for healing. It is based on
the biophysics of the body and works with the human energy field.
The first human energy field to be well documented was the field
of the heart. Energy Medicine takes the perspective that energy
is a vital, living, moving force that is integral to our health,
wellness & happiness.
Drawing on a number of
diverse traditions, an energy balancing session allows you to deeply
relax, release and let go of accumulated tensions that can disrupt
the healthy flow of your vital life force. It is the removal of
physical and energetic blocks and rebalancing of the human energy
field which allows the body's innate healing system to work most
effectively.
The benefits of a session
may include increased vitality, a sense of emotional well-being,
an alleviation or elimination of pain, insights into the deeper
meaning of physical, emotional and/or spiritual disruptions, a sense
of balance, and a deep sense of peace and release.
Hypnosis
The application of hypnosis
dates back to 3000 BC, where evidence of its practice has been found
in Egyptian tombs. The term hypnosis originates from the word Hypnos,
meaning sleep. The induction of trance states and the use of therapeutic
suggestion were a central feature of the early Greek healing temples,
and variations of these techniques were practiced throughout the
ancient world. In the past fifty years, hypnosis has become widely
accepted as a highly effective means for shifting behavior and for
healing.
Hypnosis can be utilized
to reduce harmful addictions or habits, for weight loss, pain management,
relief of symptoms associated with chronic health conditions, enhancing
performance, improving self-esteem, allievating anxiety and reducing
depression.
Following a hypnosis
session one typically feels refreshed, relaxed and experiences an
overall state of wellness.
Meditation
The use of Meditation
for healing is not new. Meditative techniques are the product of
diverse cultures and peoples around the world. The value of meditation
to alleviate suffering and promote healing has been known and practiced
for thousands of years.
Meditation has been
acknowledged as an effective way to lower blood pressure, relieve
insomnia, alleviate depression, boost the immune system and generally
relax the everyday stresses of life.
Meditation is about simplicity.
It is about stopping, observing the breath and being present. By
learning new ways to "be" in our lives, we can learn new
ways to approach our difficulties. Through developing meditation
tools and techniques, we can awaken the best of our spiritual, human
capacities.
